Insurance. It's a big thing nowadays. Its best described as a contract that helps a person out when he needs money to fix losses. There are many different insurances out there, such as car, house, renters, health, and even insurance for your dog! But have you ever had to change insurance carriers because of your dog? It's more common than you think, unfortunately. Here is a list of breeds that may affect your ability to get certain insurance:
Akita Inu
Alaskan Malamute
American Pitbull Terrier
Bull Terrier (regular and miniature)
Chow Chow
Cane Corso
Dalmatian
Doberman Pinscher
German Shepherd
Presa Canarios
Rottweiler
Siberian Husky
Staffordshire Bull Terrier (English and American)
Any wolf-dog hybrid
Why these certain dogs? If you look at recent dog attacks, it's usually these breeds that do it. And insurance companies are getting tired of using their money to help people pay for hospital bills for dog attacks, even though helping people pay is their job. When you own one of these dogs, you may risk your chances of getting special benefits and your rates may go up. However, a simple thing to do is to change insurance carriers. Carriers such as Allstate and USAA allow you to own any dog without your rates going up. And carriers based in states such as Michigan, Nevada, New York, and Pennsylvania have no restrictions based on the breed because it's against the law in their state. According to Michigan's Senate, "bans will be against aggressive dogs, not the breed itself." Good job to you, Michigan!
It's important to do some research before choosing an insurance. And it's important to see if your dog makes it to the banned list. Happy reading, and of course, Canine Good!
