Top Ten: Worst dog foods part 2

With all good things come bad things, and since I made a part 2 of the good dog foods, I did more research and found ten more dog foods that your dog should never eat. And I have a feeling that there is going to be a lot more of these, so brace yourselves.

1: Cesar Filets Classics

ree

Cesar is a well-known wet food, but it shouldn't be. The first ingredient is beef, so that's good. But this food includes pork by-products, which is usually the bones and guts of pork, artificial colors, and sodium nitrate, a chemical that helps the food retain it's 'real' color. Plus, this food contains a lot of salt.

2: Purina One SmartBlend

ree

This food contains corn gluten meal, whole grain corn, whole grain wheat, soybean meal, caramel color, and artificial vitamin K. The grains equal more than the meat products, which include just chicken and beef fat. Maybe we should call this Purina One DumbBlend

3: Purina Alpo

ree

Another one of Purina's products, Purina Alpo has ground yellow corn, corn germ meal, beef and bone meal, corn gluten meal, pork and bone meal, garlic oil, red dye 40, yellow dye 5 and 6, and blue 2. This food has more grains than actual food inside. And the dyes color the food to make it look appetizing for the human eye. What is the garlic oil for? Nothing. It doesn't add anything to the food.

4: Purina Beyond

ree

Purina Beyond has pretty average ingredient, but the one that made me put it on this list is the canola oil, a by-product used to produce farm animal feed and help produce bio-diesel. Yikes.

5: Halo Holistic

ree

Overall, this is an okay food, but one thing that concerns me that makes me put it on this list is that the main source of protein is dried egg, but it never specifies where the egg come from, whether it be top notch egg farms or it is eggs that never hatched.

6: SportMix Original

ree

SportMix has been in the news a lot, but we'll get to that in a minute. Ground yellow corn, meat meal, and ground wheat make up the first ingredients, and chicken fat is the only named source of meat. In 2021, 20 dogs died and 8 were sick after they consumed SportMix. Turns out, the corn they used had a mold, and at high levels, can kill pets. Best to avoid this food overall.

7: Bil-Jac Picky No More

ree

The first ingredient of this food is chicken by-products, which is what is left over after the good parts of the chicken has been taken. The second is corn meal. Chicken by-product meal, dried beat pulp, and brewer's dried rice are next. This food is also preserved with BHA, a chemical suspected to cause cancer.

8: Member's Mark

ree

Member's Mark is a Sam's Club name-brand. This food has dried beet pup, which is high in fiber and too much fiber can cause constipation, brewers yeast, and dried peas. Lastly, this food contains menadione, which is linked to liver toxicity and the breaking down of red blood cells.

9: Blackwood 1000

ree

Blackwood 1000 is a pretty good food, but there are a few ingredients that aren't good such as dried beat pulp, which has a lot of fiber, crushed red chili pepper, which I don't think a dog needs a spicy pepper, and brewers dried rice.

10: Wegman's Bruiser

ree

I saved the worst for last. Here are the first ten ingredients in this food. TEN! Ground yellow corn, soybean meal, whole wheat, high fructose corn syrup, beef meal, animal fat, water, chicken by-products, corn gluten meal, and salt. As you can see, the grains outnumber the protein. Avoid this food. And I thought Purina was bad!

I guess this wraps up this post. I can't believe there is a food worse than Purina Dog Chow. But despite all of this, I still hate Purina. Happy reading, and of course, Canine Good.
