Top Ten: Ugliest Breeds of Dog

Man's best friend comes in all shapes and sizes, but some canines just missed some steps in the evolutionary process and gave us ugly beasts! While it is true that I love dogs, these dogs just happen to be the ugliest and have a place at the bottom of my favorite dog breed chart.

#10: Spanish Mastiff

This dog certainly got the big size and power, but there is nothing pretty about this dog. They were bred in Spain to protect sheep from wolves and other predators. Despite their size, and ugly looks, these dogs are gentle giants when it comes to people.

#9: Bloodhound

Bloodhounds are famous for being the best scent-tracking dogs. But to me, they are famous for being ugly. These dogs have more wrinkles than brains and our neighbor used to have one that would bark and chase us whenever we'd walk home. These dogs come from Belgium where they were used to track boar and other large game.

#8: Shar-Pei

Shar-Pei's are another wrinkly dog. These dogs come from China where they were used to hunt and guard houses. I find these dogs ugly because of their stupid small ears, curly tails, large paws, wrinkles, stupid-looking nose, small, dark eyes, and floppy jowls. Gross.

#7: Thai Ridgeback

The Thai Ridgeback comes from Thailand where they are used to hunt vermin and track boar. They have hideously pointed ears that look like the Great Pyraminds glued to their heads and this ugly whip-like tail that's bound to hit anybody. They have angular heads and blunt muzzles and no, they are not bald, they have very short gray fur.

#6: Puli

The Puli is the lesser-known cousin of the Komondor, and these beasts happen to look like a mop that was used to clean a Super 8 bathroom. Like the better-looking Komondor, the Puli is used to herd sheep in Hungary.

#5: Pekingese

The Pekingese is another breed of dog from China. These dogs were used as lap dogs, which is ironic because I wouldn't want a dog like this on me. They look more like guinea pigs because of their small eyes, blunt faces,, short ears, barely visible legs, and long fur.

#4: Chongqing Dog

Yet another Chinese dog, the Chongqing Dog was used for hunting, but they have lost their original jobs and are now bred as pets. No wonder, I wouldn't want one of these as a hunting dog either. One look at this dog and the game would be running away! These dogs have ugly wrinkled faces, a tail that looks like a pencil, pointy ears, sharp-looking ears, and ugly reddish-brown coats.

#3: Pug

The Pug is the fourth Chinese dog on this list. These dogs were bred as companion dogs. I don't see why because these dogs have all the bad traits. Heavy shedding, trouble breathing, rheumy eyes, fat, squashed body, and large, saucer-shaped eyes. I do have to pay respects though, for my step-grandparents owned two of these that were the sweetest girls ever.

#2: Xoloitzcuintli

The Xoloitzcuintli is a breed of hairless dog from Mexico. These dogs were used as a food source and often sacrificed. I wouldn't want one as a pet either, ancient Mexicans. These dogs need sunscreen when going outside, and they feel oily when touched when they need a bath.

#1: Chinese Crested Dog

You guessed it, the last dog on this list is a Chinese dog. Why do the Chinese make such ugly dogs? These dogs are famously known for being the 'naked' dogs. My other neighbor had one of these and he felt like the heel of a dried foot. Why do my neighbors get such ugly dogs?

We need to breed all of these dogs together and make the ultimate ugly dog. We can call it the Five Chinese and a Mexican Mastiff Hound. Happy reading! and of course, Canine Good! Except for these beasts of burden.
