Ever heard of a stray or feral dog? These two terms are not the same. A stray dog is a dog that belonged to a person and was either lost or abandoned. A feral dog is a dog that was born wild and has little to no human contact. But, what are other categories of dogs?
Owned

An owned dog is a dog that is owned and lives with humans. These dogs are kept confined either in a house or in a cage or fence. They are generally friendly and allow people to pet them.
Free-Ranging

Ever heard of a community cat? Well, Free-Ranging dogs are dogs that live in the wild but depend on humans for food. These dogs may be shy but they depend on humans for survival. Dog breeds such as the New Guinea Singing Dog and the Carolina Dog are Free-Ranging dogs.
Free-Ranging Unowed

A Free-Ranging Unowed dog is a dog that is completely feral and may even attack humans. They hunt in packs to get food and are only a few steps away from being a wolf. These dogs are unowned by anyone.
Wild

A wild dog are animals like gray wolves, coyotes, dholes (as shown in the picture), red foxes, African wild dogs, gray foxes, jackal, and the kit fox. These are animals that hunt for thier own food and do not need humans at all.
Can a feral dog make a good pet? It depends. It depends on how the human treats the feral dog. Chances are, if the experiances have been good the dog will trust humans. Happy reading! And of course, Canine Good!
